Laminated glass is a type of safety glass that holds together when broken.  It is held together by an interlayer of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) that can be bonded between two or more layers of glass.  Combining different thicknesses of glass and PVB can result in products suitable for many applications including bullet resistant glass.  As with other types of safety glass, laminated glass is used when there is a possibility of human impact or where glass could fall if shattered.  Building codes require laminated safety glass in overhead glazings such as atriums and skylights.

Laminated glass has also become a solution to provide protection against blasts, forced entry and bullets.  Where security is a growing concern, security glazings have become an increasing focus in the retrofit and design of government buildings, financial institutions, and jewellery stores.

This glass can be fabricated with a variety of annealed, heat-treated, and coated products, to create customer-tailored solutions to satisfy both security concerns, as well as, energy and comfort requirements for any application.

Other benefits of laminated glass, are to provide excellent sound control and noise reduction, as well as UV protection.  The plastic interlayer bonding the glass together provides outstanding acoustic insulation by dampening sound resonance and glass vibration making it a perfect choice for noisy areas.  It also blocks 99% of UV rays while reducing the transmittance of solar energy.

Our laminated products comply with Federal and voluntary standards such as ASTM c-1172, ANSI Z97.1 and Consumer Products Safety Commission CPSC 16 CFR 1201 for category 1 and 2 "Glass Standard for Architectural Glazing Material".
